Bolt seals are a one-time use lock commonly used to secure shipping containers, truck container and other CTUs (cargo transport units). Once sealed, the bolt seal cannot be opened without being cut using a bolt cutter. Since it can only be removed once, this ensures that the container remains unopened until it has been delivered to the recipient.
ISO 17712:2013 establishes uniform procedures for the classification, acceptance, and withdrawal of mechanical freight container seals. A high security classification is one of several requirements in order to be compliant with C-TPAT.
The JaiBolt is classified as a high security bolt seal and is compliant with ISO 17712:2013.
Once you have purchased a JaiBolt, you will receive full access to the Jaiota Dashboard and all its features at no additional cost.
Unlimited in-app alerts & emails are included.
40 Text message alerts are included with each JaiBolt purchased, these text messages can be customised alerts for your operations needs e.g. passing through Geofences, departing origin, arriving at destination and when the JaiBolt is cut. The JaiBolt requires cellular connectivity to send location updates and receive changes to ping frequency. Generally, once the JaiBolt is in the hull of a ship, it will not transmit these updates.
A ping can be defined as an attempt to connect to the server and send its location and receive any changes to ping frequency.
When the locking base is separated from the main body of the JaiBolt, a connection will be attempted. If unsuccessful, it will attempt connection every hour until successful at which time it will be updated with any ping rate defined when the JaiBolt is scanned using the app and a ping rate set. Locations will only be shown from the time the JaiBolt is recorded by scanning the QR code using the mobile app.
It must be remembered that it should be outside so GPS co-ordinates can be determined and sent via cellular communications.
A new JaiBolt can be attached utilizing the Scan & Replace function on the mobile app. Attaching the new JaiBolt and utilising the Scan & Replace function will identify that it is a part of the same journey of that container.
A ping can be defined as an attempt to connect to the server and send its location and receive any changes to ping frequency.
You can schedule the JaiBolt to send location updates as frequently as every 10 minutes. Be aware, that the more frequently the updates are scheduled the less time the battery will last.
For longer journeys of up to 6 months, you may choose to receive 4 updates every 24 hours. For shorter journeys of approximately 5 days, the frequency could be schedules for every 10 minutes. There are many factors which impact the battery life. These include the quality of cellular signal and time to first position.
If the JaiBolt is tampered or destroyed it will initiate pinging updates immediately and continue until the battery is exhausted.
The JaiBolt comes with global embedded SIM card pre-installed. This SIM works in countries where LTE Cat-M/2G coverage exists. The JaiBolt will change to different available networks seamlessly. There are over 130 countries where networks are available.

A JaiBolt™ Smart Bolt Seal works just like any container bolt seal, with the added benefit of a robust, intelligence-driven and secure way to track your shipping containers, truck containers and other CTUs (cargo transport units) in the following 3 simple steps:
Step 1 – Lock and Seal
Lock the JaiBolt to the container to initiate activation.
Step 2 – Scan QR Code
Open the Jaiota App. Load the JaiBolt details instantly to your account.
Step 3 – Scan Container Number
Automatically capture the container number by scanning.
Use a JaiBolt to track where your container is, gain reports about its journey and improve security when sealing shipping containers, rail containers and truck doors. All seals have their own unique seal number and QR code for registration electronically.
The JaiBolt complies with ISO 17712:2013 definition of a high security bolt seal.
It will withstand -40°C to +70°C temperatures and cannot be disengaged by intrusion or manipulation.
Using GPS IoT technology the JaiBolt™ recognises attempts of tampering or its destruction and can alert the user immediately via SMS and the Jaiota Dashboard.
The latch hole needs to allow for the JaiBolt™ shank to be threaded through it.
The diameter of the JaiBolt™ shank is approximately 12mm.
Weight: ~240 grams
Depth: 30mm and 35mm at its greatest thickness. From the mid-point of the shaft to the back is 15mm.
For other dimensions, please see below.
In optimum conditions the battery will last up to 6 months.
The IP66 classification states that it is dust tight and protected against powerful water jets from any angle.
No. In optimum conditions, it will last six months at a ping rate of every six hours.
The JaiBolt utilizes GPS and cellular towers to determine the location. In optimum conditions, the GPS accuracy is 1.5m.
Dashboard & App
There are two platforms: the Dashboard which contains the full functionality of Jaiota’s software. The Jaiota Dashboard is a cloud-based system that is accessible from any web browser. It is accessed via https://jaiota.com
The mobile apps are geared towards field operations. The Jaiota mobile apps can be accessed by searching for Jaiota on the IoS and Android app stores.
The Jaiota web desktop software (Dashboard), supports the two latest versions of the major browsers. For optimum performance we suggest using Google Chrome.
The Jaiota Dashboard is designed for the desktop. It can be accessed on the mobile. However the mobile apps are specialised for that screen size. The Dashboard offers the full functionality of the Jaiota software where as the mobile apps are geared towards field-based operations such as scanning, data entry, tracking, alerts/notifications and limited reporting functionality.
The dashboard is accessed via https://jaiota.com and selecting Dashboard from the menu.
You can access the Jaiota Dashboard at https://jaiota.com and log in using your email address and password. If you are not yet a registered user, you can create an account at jaiota.com
Your username is the email address you originally registered your account with.
If you’ve forgotten your password, please select the link to request a password reset on the login page.
There is no restriction to the number of users you can invite to your enterprise.
Yes. You can export data to a CSV file, Excel spreadsheet or PDF from the reports tab.
Yes. The owner of an enterprise can create an API through the account settings.
Two steps are required to share the JaiBolt information to others in your supply chain.
- Invite them from your Dashboard and allocate them to a user group.
- Provide access to particular projects that the invited user should see. If the associated user group allocated at time of the invitation already has access to the project, the new user will automatically be given access to projects accessible by that user group.
The life of the JaiBolt is determined by the battery life. Each JaiBolt sends approximately 750 pings in its lifetime depending on conditions.
So, to determine ping rate divide 750 by duration in days. For example, a six-week duration: 750/42 days = approximately 17 pings per 24 hours which is approximately every 1 hour and 25 minutes.
In optimum conditions, the JaiBolt can last approximately 180 days with a ping rate of every 6 hours. For a journey of 5 days, the JaiBolt could ping as frequently as every ten minutes.
It must be noted that you can change the ping rate prior to a sea leg and then on arrival, the ping rate could be increased again. So, you have more detailed reporting, (that is an increased ping rate), once nearing the destination, increase the ping rate. Remember, the ping rate will only be updated on the next successful ping from the JaiBolt.
Below is a guide to setting the ping rate and journey durations:
|Ping Frequency||Expected life of battery||Ping Frequency||Expected life of battery|
|10 minutes||5 days||3 hours||90 days|
|20 minutes||10 days||3.5 hours||105 days|
|30 minutes||15 days||4 hours||120 days|
|1 hour||30 days||4.5 hours||135 days|
|1.5 hours||45 days||5 hours||150 days|
|2 hours||60 days||5.5 hours||165 days|
|2.5 hours||75 days||6 hours||180 days|
The JaiBolt works in conjunction with Jaiota’s dashboard and mobile apps. The dashboard is accessed via Jaiota.com and the apps can be downloaded from the app stores by searching for “Jaiota” or “JaiBolt”.
The dashboard contains the full functionality of the platform whereas the mobile apps are more for field operations.
It is recommended that initial settings such as geofences which are used for origins and destinations as well as other waypoints can be more clearly defined via the dashboard.
The JaiBolt is activated when the locking base is detached from the body of the JaiBolt. On locking onto a container with the QR code must face outwards.
Between location updates, the JaiBolt is in a sleep mode to preserve battery. However, if the JaiBolt is tampered or destroyed, it will attempt to send continuous location updates until the battery is exhausted.
The Geofence alerts are determined at the time of a ping. If accurate alerts are required increase the frequency rate of pinging to every 10 minutes keeping in mind that this will drain the battery sooner.
At the time the JaiBolt is scanned by the Jaiota mobile app, the user can set the ping rate. If the user wishes to modify the ping rate mid-journey. The new ping rate will be updated when next the JaiBolt wakes up and reports its location. The ping rate of the JaiBolt can be changed on either the mobile app or on the dashboard.
Example: Let’s say the current schedule is once per hour, and JaiBolt’s next expected ping is to occur at approximately at 10:00am. It’s now 09:15am. You change the ping rate to every 10 minutes. The JaiBolt will learn about this change when it successfully connects to send its location at 10:00am. After 10:00am, it will begin reporting every 10 minutes: 10:10am, 10:20am etc.
